A KIND-HEARTED delivery driver has gone out of his way to raise money for good causes.

Matt Byrne, 43, who lives in Kiln Croft in Clayton-le-woods, and works for the transport team at Padiham Glass, jumped out of a plane to raise funds for the Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund.

And not only did he make the brave decision to jump – he did so from the UK’s highest skydiving point, near Lancaster.

But his goodwill didn’t stop there – he also donated a whole month’s wages to the charity, despite December being the most expensive month of the year for many.

Mr Byrne said that it was his partner, Joanne Silver, who talked him into doing the jump.

He said: “Joanne works for an independent healthcare provider called Care UK and, along with a colleague, she was doing the jump in aid of the Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund.

“I decided that I would tag along and do my bit for charity too.”

The tandem dive took place under the professional guidance of Black Knights Parachute Centre in Cockerham near Lancaster.

Unfortunately, it was second time lucky for Matt, as his first attempt to do the dive was a failure because of the weather.

Matt said: “This is England after all and more specifically the Lake District, so what else could we expect but rain, wind and to have the jump called off.”

A spokeswoman for Padiham Glass said: “Padiham Glass is proud to have such selfless and courageous people within our organisation! Well Done Matt!”
