A DISABLED woman, who was left without transport over the festive period, has been inundated with offers of help.

Debbie Jackson, 51, was devastated when she realised her mobility scooter, her only means of transport, had been stolen from the garden of her home in Wellington Court, Accrington.

Since her story appeared in the Lancashire Telegraph, three companies offered to loan Ms Jackson a scooter until she can put in an insurance claim for a new one.

The companies ScootaMart, Millercare, and Choice Mobility all came forward to lend Ms Jackson a scooter.

Lee Crooks from Millercare said: “I wanted to arrange a loan scooter for Debbie Jackson so that she was not stranded over the festive period. We will always try to support people in our local communities.”

And Scott Goody from ScootaMart told Ms Jackson: “We are sorry to hear about the theft of your mobility scooter, we would be more than happy to lend you one while the claim is being processed.”

Ms Jackson was eventually loaned a scooter on Friday by Blackburn-based Choice Mobility after a friend contacted them and asked if they could help out.

She said: “I can’t find words enough to say how grateful I am.

“I’m overwhelmed, all my friends and everybody has been so good.

“I don’t expect it, I never expected this to happen.

“At first I was devastated, really upset, and now I’m crying tears of joy because everyone was so nice.

“My local councillor June Harrison has been in touch to ask if there was anything she could do to help.

“It restores your faith, everyone being really, really lovely.”

Leon Catley from Choice Mobility said: “I think This theft is in really poor taste, it’s like pinching somebody’s legs.

“Debbie seems like a very nice lady.

“She’s the sort of person that wouldn’t ask anybody for anything, but she’s over the moon.

“A business has to make a profit, but It’s nice when you can just help somebody out on occasion.

“The local community support our shop, without them we couldn’t function.

“We can’t do it for everybody, but it’s nice to be able to give something back.”

A police spokeswoman said the theft was under investigation, and anyone with information should contact police on 101.
