A HOMEGROWN star has been lighting up silver screens across the country after her latest film was put on general release.

Supermodel-turned-actress Agyness Deyn takes the lead role in Electricity, portraying a young woman with epilepsy that brings extraordinary hallucinations as she searches for her long-lost brother.

The 31-year-old from Rossendale takes on the part of Lily O’Connor in the film adaptation of the novel by Ray Parkinson, following on from her roles in Clash of the Titans in 2010 and Pusher in 2012.

The former All Saints RC High School pupil shot the fame after being spotted working in The Village Chippy in Ramsbottom and in 2007 was voted Model of the Year at the British Fashion Awards.

The 96-minute movie, which has been praised by critics, also stars Lenora Crichlow as Mel, Christian Cooke as Mickey O’Connor and Paul Anderson as Barry O’Connor.

Rated as a 15 certificate, the movie was shot in several locations, including Newcastle, London and Durham.

Now based in Los Angeles with her actor husband Giovanni Ribisi, who she married in 2012, the model caused a stir at the film’s premiere by revealing a sleek new look.

She became catwalk royalty with her cropped pixie hair and punky look when she burst onto the fashion scene but at her most recent appearance she showed off a more demure look, complete with flowing red hair.

Jon Claxton, owner of Claxton Hair in Crawshawbooth, said: “I knew her from when she was around 16. She went out with one of my friend’s brothers. She is really nice and quite down-to-earth and normal.

“You don’t expect her to be like that I suppose but she is just a really nice person. Her mum Lorraine comes in to the salon quite a bit so we get regular updates on how she is doing. I used to do her hair when I was down in London but when I moved up here and she moved to the USA I guess we lost touch a bit.

“She still comes in to say hello whenever she is back in the area, which is nice.

“I support her career from afar, I guess, and I like to check that she’s doing all right.”
