THE victim of a stabbing in Bacup is in a “critical” condition, doctors have said.

Jamie Mulcahy, 25, was stabbed once in the chest in Bacup on Saturday morning.

He remains in Royal Blackburn Hospital, where a spokesman said his condition had deteriorated from serious to critical.

The incident followed a brawl that is thought to have involved over 20 people, Lancashire Police said.

A woman, 24, from Bacup, who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, remained in custody on Monday.

A 25-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit wounding, also from Bacup, has been released on bail until January 26 next year.

Police have arrested two more people in connection with the incident in Yorkshire Street.

A 34-year-old man from Bacup, who was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm and a public order offence, remained in custody.

Another Bacup man, 21, who was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent, also remained in custody. Anyone with information about the incident, which happened at 2.50am on Saturday, is asked to contact police on 101.
