PENDLESIDE Hospice has receive a huge donation in memory of a former retail boss.

Charter Walk Shopping Centre in Burnley gave the hospice £5,000 as a tribute to Peter Ashworth, its former operations director who lost his long battle with cancer earlier this year.

The money was raised after Peacocks closed their original store in the shopping centre two years ago, and Charter Walk manager Chris Gribben put all the leftover display units in storage.

When Peacocks recently moved into one of the redeveloped units in the Market Square, Mr Gribben ‘sold’ them back in return for the £5,000 donation.

Chris was keen that the money be donated to the Reedley-based hospice, in memory of his much-missed colleague.

The money was presented to hospice fundraising manager, Kaye Bartle, on Thursday. Peter’s widow, Susan and his daughter Melanie also attended the presentation.

Mrs Bartle said: “Charter Walk are very good supporters of Pendleside Hospice and it was always a pleasure to work with Peter when we visited Charter Walk as part of our fundraising efforts.

"I know that he is remembered fondly by all his colleagues at Charter Walk as well as those he came into contact with during his daily business.”
