THE outstanding achievements of Years Seven to Nine pupils at Darwen Vale High School were recognised during a prize presentation night.

There were prizes galore, ranging from academic awards, to prizes for effort, sport, dance, music and drama.

The evening was punctuated with several musical items, with entertainment from guitarist Joshua Hunt, resident girl band ‘Famous Last Words’, Kiera Meek-Hartley, Ionika Regudo, Katie Parkinson and Hannah Gudgeon, and Tyler Barsby singing his Vale Idol winner ‘Stand By Me.’

The prizes were presented by headteacher Fiona Jack and guest speaker Dean Grice.

Dean is a former pupil of Darwen Vale and is now National Sports Development Manager for The Football League Trust.

In his address, he said: “The skills and qualities that I developed as a pupil at Darwen Vale High School have stood me in good stead in my career.

"When I was at Vale we were taught the importance of team work, leadership and resilience and it seems clear from meeting pupils and staff tonight that these values remain important at Vale today."

Mrs Jack said: "Well done to all of our pupils for their achievements, talents and skills."
