A TV crew brought protests about Blackburn MP Jack Straw's alleged involvement in illegally sending a Libyan man to his home country to his constituency office.

Abdul Hakim Belhaj alleges the former Foreign Secretary and MI6 helped arrange his and his wife's rendition from China to Tripoli where he was tortured in 2004.

Earlier this month the Court of Appeal ruled his case against the Mr Straw and the Foreign Office could proceed.

On Thursday, TV presenter Jolyon Rubinstein turned up outside Mr Straw's office on Richmond Terrace to film for a new political programme.

Mr Rubinstein, of BBC3's 'The Revolution Will Be Televised', fixed signs reading 'Rendition Flights' to the office door and said he was calling for lying in Parliament to be made illegal.

Accompanied a crew filming for a BBC series on the Magna Carta, he read out a statement referring to Mr Belhaj's allegations.

Mr Rubinstein said: "Jack Straw has been accused in court documents of lying in Parliament about rendition and of authorising a rendition flight.

"The government has paid another £2.2m, without admitting liability, to settle another Libyan rendition claim, which happened under the last Labour government.

" At the time, Tony Blair was prime minister and Jack Straw was foreign secretary."

He added that petition would be launched shortly.

Mr Straw declined to comment.
