TWO Rossendale youngsters have been nominated for Prince’s Trust awards after the charity helped ‘turn their lives around’.
Shane Merryweather, from Bacup, and Maxine Trickett, from Water, have been recognised for battling ‘significant personal barriers’ through the Trust’s programmes.
The pair will attend a prize ceremony in Manchester next week to discover if they win in their respective categ-ories.
Street dancer Shane, 19, suffered from depression after the death of his cousin and moved into supported accommodation where he was referred to the Trust’s Fairbridge programme.
As his confidence improved, he enrolled on a performing arts course at Accrington and Ross-endale College and volunteers at Rawtenstall Youth Zone.
Shane, who has been shortlisted for the CIMA Educational Achiever of the Year Award, said: “The Prince’s Trust Fairbridge programme made me realise that I wasn’t alone.”
Maxine, 25, attended the Trust’s Fairbridge and Team programmes after receiving help for mental health issues went on to study community leadership at university.
The awards take place at the Comedy Store on November 4.
