IT’S set to be a ‘frightening’ Friday in East Lancashire, with ghoulish goings-on across the country to mark Hallowe’en.

The Anchor Inn, in Darwen, has gone the extra mile with its devilish decorations – even as far as boarding up the windows.

Stephanie Potter, who works behind the bar the Blackburn Road venue, said they hoped to throw the biggest and best Hallowe’en party in town.

The pub has been bedecked with banshees and other creepy characters by landlord and landlady Lance and Melissa Montgomery, to keep customers on their toes during what is one of the Anchor’s busiest nights of the year.

Ms Potter said: “Lance and Melissa have gone to a real effort to do up all of the rooms this year.

“We’ve got an autopsy room, which has a ‘dead body’ in it which is pretty gruesome, as well as a scary room for the children.

“The whole place just looks like a zombie apocalypse. There’s a zombie wedding scene too, a staged car crash on the front and Army characters climbing over the roof to protect us.

“It’s always one of the busiest nights of the year and we’re really looking forward to it. It will be rammed in here.”

The highlight of the evening is expected to be Michael Jackson tribute act Man in the Mirror, who will be thrilling revellers from 10pm.

Over at Pendle Hill, the county’s most notorious netherworld, Lancashire police have confirmed that nearby roads will not be closed this year, allowing curious hikers the chance to roam as night falls.

Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team will be on hand to treat anyone who falls in the dark ... or sees a ghost!
