A HOLLYWOOD film starring Liam Neeson and Sigourney Weaver will be filming in Ramsbottom next weekend.

Scenes from ‘A Monster Calls’ will be filmed in the village on October 25 and 26, much of it during the night.

The film is based on the award-winning children’s book by Patrick Ness and tells the tale of 13-year-old Connor and a story-telling monster who visits him while he struggles to deal with his mother’s cancer.

The production will be making the most of Ramsbottom’s railway crossing as well as filming on Bridge Street and Bolton Street.

Ramsbottom councillor Ian Bevan has welcomed the filming.

He said: “We’ve tried to build up the town into being a tourist attraction and it’s good that it’s being recognised by people coming to film in the town.”

Filming will take place from 6pm to 4.30am on the Saturday and 6pm to 4am on Sunday.

Traffic will be stopped for three to four minutes during takes on Bolton Street on Saturday.

The railway crossing will be the centre of Sunday’s filming with Bridge Street to be closed.

The production company is appealing for businesses along the set to leave their shop lights on so the company can make use of the lights.

Dave Entwistle, owner of Entwistle’s Deli on Bridge Street will be giving his support.

He said: “I’ll be leaving the lights on. I think if we all do our part we can make the town look really nice while they’re filming.”

Bolton Street parking bays will be suspended on Sunday night but people will be able to park on the Aldi car park instead.

Disruption to residents is expected to be minimal with most of the filming through the night.

Coun Bevan said: “It is ideal that they can do it at night but I’m sure residents wouldn’t mind if it was filmed during the day as long as it puts our town on the map.”

The film is set for a 2016 release.
