PIES and pastries maker Holland’s will be supporting the Royal British Legion, by giving out limited edition pies at the finish line of the Accrington 5k Poppy Run next month.

As a tribute to this year’s First World War Centenary commemorations, Celebrity Chef Tom Bridge from The Great British Bake Off, has created a commemorative pie especially for local war heroes in the North West.

He said: "It has been an honour utilising the best of British ingredients to create the Holland's Commemorative Pie for our local war heroes."

The pie is based on a post-war recipe, which uses corned beef, along with British beef and seasoned potatoes, onions and carrots, all wrapped in Holland's golden shortcrust pastry.

This unique pastry is also created using a well-guarded, secret technique dating back to a post-war recipe.

• The Accrington Poppy Run will see participants from the local community running 5k to raise funds for The Royal British Legion and annual Poppy Appeal.

It starts at 11am on Sunday, November 2, at St John’s CE Primary School, Baxenden. Runners will also finish at the school where Holland’s Pies will be waiting to reward participants with a pie.
