LANCASHIRE health boss Azhar Ali has reminded smokers it’s not to late to quit in ‘Stoptober’.
The Nelson South county councillor said: “There is still time to sign-up this month, “I urge people to contact their local stop smoking service to get the help and support they need.”
Research has shown that people are four times more likely to stop smoking with support from trained professionals than trying alone.
Stoptober is a national campaign run by Public Health England every October and supported locally by Lancashire County Council.
Count Ali, LCC cabinet member for health, said: “Around 21 per cent of people in Lancashire smoke.
“This is more than the national average and we want to do all we can to encourage more people to quit for good.
“It's difficult to stop smoking, but there are people who can help.
“Your local stop smoking service will give you support and medicine to help you beat the cravings.
“Stoptober is a great time to quit, it's not too late to sign-up.”
