TWO former workers at Mullard’s in Simonstone are organising a reunion, a decade after the plant closed.

Dot Calvert and Sharon Brown are inviting anyone who worked at the factory during its 49-year history.

The reunion takes place on Saturday, November 1, at 7.30pm at Ighten Leigh Social Club, Padiham Road, Burnley.

Said Dot, who worked at Mullard’s between 1979 and 1987: “I’m sure there are lots of former employees who are keen to share their memories and reminisce about old times.”

“This will be a fun evening, with the opportunity to catch up with old friends and colleagues from far and wide, as well as enjoying a disco/karaoke and a raffle. There will be a small charge of £3 on the door to cover costs.

Anybody who worked at Simonstone Mullard’s from its inaugural year in 1955, to when the site was finally closed in 2004 is warmly invited to attend and hopefully it will be the first of many!”

She went on: “Whenever I talk to former colleagues from Mullard’s, they all say the same thing; it was the best place that they ever worked!

“I worked in the gun assembly room with a hundred or so other people and I can honestly say that we spent most of our days laughing.

“I made some of the best friends of my life while working there and I’m sure that many other people did too. It would be wonderful to have a good turnout at this 10-year reunion and for people to be able to reconnect with friends from years ago.”

There is already a growing community of former Mullard’s employees gathering on the Facebook page and sharing stories and photographs from their time at the factory.
