POLICE were looking for a man who may have acted as a decoy for a daylight robbery at a Clayton-le-Moors antique dealers.

The man was talking to the manager of A Graves antiques, Sparth House, when a thief grabbed a cash box containing £600 and £800 of jewellery.

Making the picture headlines was the story of something of a crush on a car park.

A woman driver was taken to hospital when her car careered off a ramp on the roof top park above Blackburn market. Her Ford Granada went over the side and crashed into a Morris 1100 and a Morris 1800 below.

In other news, a young East Lancashire man scored a bull’s eye in capturing one of the most coveted national darts trophies – and, with it, possible contracts worth thousands of pounds.

For 23-year-old Jack North, of Padiham, won the National Darts Association of Great Britain individual championships, to top a run of successes in which he carried off the Lancashire and north west area titles.

Jack, of Park View, was back in the pubs and clubs where he found the experience to take him through against some of the country’s leading players.

“It’s just been amazing. I seem to have been on top form all this year,” he said later.

Cyril Kenyon, of the Talk of the Town Club in Blackburn and Lancashire Darts Association official, commented: “He is probably the youngest player to win the national title.

“It is on the cards he could now feature on television, on the lunchtime darts programme and could even be approached to turn professional.

“ Last year’s winner was offered £20,000 by a club owner to stage an exhibition in his club.”

Added Jack, a general labourer at Hepworth Polva Plastics in Padiham: “The money to be made is certainly worth thinking about – it is certainly better than working.”
