A GROUP of travellers has moved on from one Blackburn site – but remain at another.

A plot of land near Shad-sworth Leisure Centre was home to three caravans which were believed to have arrived on Sunday morning.

Grassland off Lower Audley Street near the Frankie and Benny’s restaurant, however, has hosted two caravans which arrived on Friday. Last night they remained at the site.

Blackburn with Darwen Council attended both sites yesterday. One eyewitness said they had seen the police talking with the travellers in Lower Audley Street on Friday night.

Coun Maureen Bateson said: “It would depend on the circ-umstances as to what we do in response.

“If they were on private land it would be up to the land owner to ask them to leave.

“If they were on council land then we would visit the site and ask them to move on. If that didn’t work, we’d be forced to appeal for an injunction.

“Sometimes we can come to an arrangement that they will be gone within a certain period.

“We always try to work with them to come to a solution.

“It depends where they are going and if they have caused any damage on the site.”

It comes as residents living on Ewood’s borough-run travel-lers’ site have called for action to renovate their ‘dilapidated’ home while major road and construction works take place.

They met with council officials today to voice conc-erns about rubbish, inadequate fencing and open drains.

The 12-year-old site, just off Albion Road, has 20 pitches and is home to more than 50 people, including children and elderly people.
