EAST Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group is inviting people to call in for a cup of coffee and a slice of cake, as part of a national day of fundraising.

The CCG, based in Nelson, is participating in Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday, September 26, and is issuing an open invitation for people to join them at Walshaw House in Regent Street, from 11am to 2pm. As well as serving tea, coffee and cakes, there will be a samosa lunch, games and a tombola.

There will also be a serious side to the event, with videos running featuring patient stories, as well as a host of Macmillan information.

Every penny raised will go towards supporting more patients and families affected by cancer.

Dr Neil Smith, Macmillan GP at the CCG, said: “In some parts of East Lancashire, the premature cancer mortality rate is 40 per cent higher than the national average, with 10 per cent more cancer diagnoses in some areas than elsewhere in the country.”
