AN animal- themed fun day attracted hundreds of people and raised more than £1,500.

Visitors to the event run by Horses and Ponies Protection Association (HAPPA) at Towneley Playing fields met rescued equines, took part in animal related activities and got hands on with a number of furry friends from Copper’s Critters animals encounters display.

The afternoon also featured a beat the goalie competition, Lancashire Mounted Games Association display, a dog show, charity stalls and amusement rides.

The fun day has run annually since 1984, however it is the first year that it has taken place outside of their premises due to major work taking part at the their centre in Briercliffe.

Development officer Julie Rickwood-Gan said the day was a huge success: “This event allowed people the opportunity to meet the HAPPA team and a some of our rescued equines as well as enjoying the many displays, games and events throughout the day.

“The funds raised will help HAPPA to care for abused, neglected and abandoned equines.

“A huge thank you to those who helped us raise a fantastic amount by attending the event and to everyone who turned out for the novelty dog show, there were such a great number of well presented and well behaved dogs.

“A special mention to everyone who gave their time for free to help support HAPPA.

Everyone who supported the day has helped HAPPA continue rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing horses, ponies and donkeys.”
