A HARDWORKING pupil is celebrating after he was awarded the highest possible grade in his SATS maths test.

Maths whiz, Eisah Suleman, was entered for a higher level SATS examination by his primary school, St Paul’s in Nelson, after they noticed huge potential in his numeracy skills.

The move paid off as Eisah was awarded the level six - the highest possible.

Proud dad, Khurum Suleman, who lives in Waterfoot with his only son, said that Eisah had worked extremely hard in the run-up to his SATS exams and that his high grade was well deserved.

He said: “The whole family is very proud of him.

“He’s a very intelligent lad but he also loves a challenge and is a real hardworker.

“We think he was the only child that St Paul’s put in for the higher level test and we think he is the only pupil in the school’s history to be awarded a level six.

“We are really made up for him and he is over the moon.”

Eisah also scored highly in his English and science SATS, with a result of a level five for each of the subjects.

The national average SATS result for a child leaving primary school is a level four.

The level six test was introduced in England in 2012, dubbed ‘super-SATs’ and aimed at bright 11-year-olds whose work in class was at the standard expected of a 14-year-old.

Eisah is now settling into his new high school, Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School in Waterfoot, where he is in the top set for all of his subjects.
