POLICE are appealing for information after a pedestrian was seriously injured following a collision with a car.

The incident, at around 12.50am on Saturday, involved a white Toyota Avensis which failed to stop at the scene near the I Bar on Church Street, Accrington.

A 28-year-old man from Accrington was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital where he was treated for serious head injuries.

A 24-year-old Accrington man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failure to stop and was released on police bail until 6 October 2014.

PC Mike Smith of the East Road Policing Unit said: “We are aware that there were a number of night time revellers in the area at the time of the collision who may have possibly witnessed what happened and I would urge them to come forward and speak to us to aid us with our investigations.”
