Organised by Veronica Simpson, secretary of the Burnley FC Former Players’ Association, the event is due to become an annual fixture on the calendar after the success of the inaugural match at Stonyhurst Park Golf Club.

Ms Simpson said: “When the scores were in from the charity golf day and verified, unbelievably they were identical so the trophy had to be shared.

“It was presented to former Burnley defender Ian Brennan and ex-Blackburn winger Ken Beamish and I must say a big thank you to all who took part.

“Approximately £3,000 was raised and it is to be an annual event, with next year already booked at Nelson Golf Club, and Clitheroe Golf Club has expressed an interest for 2016.”
