VANDALS scratched 17 cars on the same street causing thousands of pounds of damage.

Residents in Burns Street, in Daneshouse, Burnley, were left outraged by the attack.

Among the cars damaged were a new BMW, two other BMWs, two Audis, a Volkswagen Passat and Golf, a seven-seater Seat Alhambra and a Renault Megane.

People reported hearing a group of girls in the area at the time but nobody realised the damage they were causing.

All of the damaged vehicles were parked on the right side of Burns Street as it heads up towards the junction with Throstle Close.

The incident, which left scratch marks along the full length of some vehicles, happened between 1.30am and 3am on Sunday morning.

Abdul Salek, 32, woke up to find his Audi A2 had been damaged.

He said: “It’s senseless. They’ve caused thousands of pounds of damage on the street for no reason at all.

“One of the neighbours had just got a brand new BMW and now it’s wrecked. It’s ridiculous.

“I don’t understand why somebody would do something like this. Do they think it’s funny to scratch somebody’s car?

“I’ve only had the car a few months and now I’ve got to spend money on getting it repaired.

“I’ve lived here all my life and nothing like this has happened before. It’s a quiet area with a good community spirit.”

Ansar Miah, also 32, bought his Audi A4 for £5,000 two years ago, and in January he spent £3,500 on getting the side that has now been damaged resprayed.

“It’s going to be another £3,000 to get it done again,” he said.

“I can’t believe it. I spent nearly all of my savings on that car. I’d always just had runarounds before and I wanted a nice car, but then somebody goes and does this.

“I heard some girls giggling at about 2am but I thought nothing of it. I had no idea they could be doing something like this.

“My mate's car has also been vandalised but he is on holiday in Tunisia for two weeks, so it’s going to be a nasty surprise when he gets back.”

Police are investigating the vandalism and have appealed for any witnesses to come forward. Officers are checking CCTV in the area but have also asked for anybody with private CCTV to contact them if they have footage of the vandalism.

Sgt Martin Holt said: “All vehicles have been scratched, but with what we don’t know.

“Female voices were heard in the street at that time by residents.

“We would appeal for anybody who witnessed a group in the area at this time to come forward, and also anybody who has their own CCTV that may have picked something up.

“This is not a usual route home from town so we don’t necessarily expect it to be someone coming back from a night out.

“It is a close-knit community and a quiet street so it is unusual for something like this to happen there.”

Anyone with information about the attacks is urged to call police on 101.
