A MAN was stabbed and left with a punctured lung and several cuts to his leg after an incident in Great Harwood.

The 25-year-old was taken to hospital after being knifed in his side and leg at a house in Lomax Street, at around 4.15am yesterday.

One neighbour said she was disturbed by loud yelling in the run up to the incident.

She said: “At about 1am I heard a woman shouting at a few lads to get out of her house because she has kids.

“They all walked up the road and it all quietened down and I went to bed. Then at 4am I heard all the commotion in the street.”

Yesterday, patrons at the nearby Leisure Hour Working Men’s club sat discussing the attack while a police officer sat in a vehicle opposite, guarding the house where it happened.

One said: “You don’t expect anything like this to happen in this town, never mind this street, but there are scuffles every day.

“We are all working class around here and stuff happens; people are always being thumped or bottled.

“If this had happened in the Ribble Valley somewhere, then I would be shocked.”

One neighbour said: “We didn’t see anything because we didn’t get out to bed, but we heard a lot going on.

“People were running down the street. We did not think it was unusual because there’s a pub nearby and it’s a bad street for noise late at night.”

A spokeswoman for the North West Ambulance Service said: “We were called to St Cuthbert’s Road, off Lomax Street, at 4.18am to reports of a male being stabbed.

“The man had been stabbed in the leg and side, near to his chest. Royal Preston Hospital was informed and put on standby for his arrival.”

A police spokesman said: “We were called at around 4.15am yesterday morning to an address on Lomax Street, Great Harwood following reports that a man had been stabbed.

“An ambulance attended the scene and took a 25 year old man to Royal Preston Hospital where he is being treated for a punctured lung and wounds to his legs. The wounds are not thought to be life threatening.”

A 20-year-old woman from Great Harwood was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and will be questioned by police.
