A BURNLEY singer who made national headlines after reaching the semi-final of Britain’s Got Talent is returning to the town for a special performance.

Andrew Derbyshire will perform his one-man show at the Burnley Mechanics next month.

The 31-year-old won a standing ovation from the Britain’s Got Talent judges after belting out Jocelyn Brown’s Somebody Else’s Guy in his audition, but his semi-final performance of Beyonce’s Listen wasn’t enough to reach the final after the public vote.

Now Andrew, who moved to London 12 years ago, wants to thank the people of Burnley for their sup-port as he comes home.

“I’ve had an awful lot of support over the years from my home town,” he said.

“I want to thank people for that support and put on a good show for them.

“I know a lot of people were voting for me during Britain’s Got Talent and my career started in Burnley.”

Andrew’s mainstream career began in 2001 when he appeared on the first series of Pop Idol.

He has since made his name on West End productions of We Will Rock You and Joseph and The Technicolour Dreamcoat.

Andrew will be per- forming alongside Burn-ley’s Basics Junior Theatre School, where his career began.

The show takes place on Satur- day, September 13, from 7.30pm.
