YOUNG Clarets fans at Burnley’s nearest neighbours are ‘full’ of excitement as they prepare for a season watching Sean Dyche’s men take on the Premier League’s biggest names.

Aspiring footballers at Fulledge Colts FC, based just across the road from Turf Moor, have high hopes for their newly-promoted heroes.

And the club’s under-eight section already boasts a legendary name in its ranks - seven-year-old midfielder William Robson the grandson of Clarets icon Jimmy Robson, who scored 100 goals in 242 appearances for the club in the 1950s and 1960s.

The FA Charter Standard Club was formed by current chairman Brian Fulton in 1995 and draws its players from areas across the town including Brunshaw, Burnley Wood, Cliviger and Worsthorne.

Coach Ian McKay, who oversees training at Towneley Park, said Premier League football on Fulledge’s doorstep had given the club and the area ‘a real buzz’.

The 36-year-old, himself a season ticket-holder at Turf Moor, said: “They are all very excited. You can see most of them have the new strip and it’s great for them to be able to see the top players coming to Burnley.

“I think most of us would be happy with finishing in 16th or 17th place - we’ve had to explain to the lads that it’s not like this all the time!”

Last season’s top scorer Danny Ings was the name on everyone’s lips as the squad looked forward to welcoming José Mourinho’s Chelsea to Turf Moor for Burnley’s opening fixture on Monday night.

Midfielder Ethan Bradley, seven, said: “I go to the games with my dad and I’m very excited about this year. I think we’ll beat Chelsea 3-2.

“Danny Ings and Kieran Trippier are my favourite players. I think we’ll do well this season.”

Thomas Ashworth, seven, said he was particularly looking forward to seeing Manchester United play at Turf Moor.

He said: “I think Lukas Jutkiewicz will do well with Danny Ings. We beat Manchester United last time so we can beat them this time.”

Ian’s son Josh McKay, also seven, was also in a confident mood. He said: “I’m going with dad on Monday and I think we can stay up.

“I’m excited about seeing Wayne Rooney play too.”
