EAST Lancashire is still on a yellow weather warning as the remnants of Hurricane Bertha sweep across Britain.

The Met Office said there would be high winds across East Lancashire.

A spokesman said: “Westerly winds are expected to pick up across North Wales, Liverpool Bay and North West England, then also across the Pennines and North East England before extending to Scotland..

“Gusts of 40 to 50mph are likely quite widely, perhaps in excess of 60mph.

“This is most likely across the Pennines where isolated gusts as high as 70mph are possible.

“The public should be aware of the potential for some disruption due to the unseasonably strong winds, with some difficult driving conditions likely.”

Rachael Vince, a forecaster with MeteoGroup, said: “It is more of an autumnal storm.

“The rainfall is fairly persistent over the Midlands, north east and north west of England.

“While there is more showery rain in the south and west of England and Wales.”
