THIS is the moment a balaclava-clad robber armed with a 2ft long sword burst into a Burnley bookmakers.

The attack happened at the Coral Betting Shop, in Harry Potts Way, and resulted in the robber making off with £200 from the till, leaving the shop workers ‘terrified’.

Detectives investigating the case have now issued CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the robbery, which happened around 8.45pm on July 21.

Police said the attacker went up to the counter and demanded money from staff. It is then thought he hit the computer screen which operated the till with the sword and knocked over some of the shop’s displays.

He then jumped over the counter, continuing to make demands for money and brandishing the weapon towards staff before making off with the cash.

The man left in the the direction of Holcombe Drive.

He was described as being white, approximately 5ft 10ins tall and of slim build. He spoke with a local accent and was wearing a grey tracksuit top with a logo on the top of the hood and dark tracksuit bottoms.

Det Con Dave Greenwood, of Pennine CID, appealed for anybody with information to come forward.

He said: “I would like people to take a close look at these CCTV images.

“And if anyone knows who this man may be, please get in touch with us as soon as you can.

“This was a violent and aggressive attack which left two members of staff terrified and fearful for their own safety.”
