FORMER Team GB gymnastics captain turned sports broadcaster Craig Heap will be lining up as a judge on a new primetime TV competition.

The Olympian and Commonwealth Games gold medal winner is set to critique celebrities’ gymnastics performances during BBC One’s new Saturday night entertainment show, Tumble, which starts next Saturday. (9) Ten celebs, including Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding, world boxing champ Carl Froch, and reality TV star Lucy Mecklenburgh from the Only Way Is Essex are all vying to impress the 37-year-old, who was born on a farm on the Burnley/Pendle border.

The former pupil at Heasandford Primary School and Barden High said: “Those celebrities better be prepared to train hard because the judges have pretty high standards and we are ready to be entertained.

“We can’t wait to show the world a totally different side to gymnastics. Expect the unexpected.”

Craig captained England to a gold medal twice, for the first time ever at the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur in 1998, and again in 2002 in Manchester.

He also represented Team GB in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

He retired in 2002, having won 14 British titles.

Tumble, which will be presented by The One Show’s Alex Jones, will also feature gymnastics legend Nadia Comaneci as head judge, London 2012 hero and Strictly Come Dancing champion Louis Smith, and world-renowned aerial performer Sebastien Stella as fellow judges.

Executive producer Rachel Arnold said: “This is gymnastics but not as you know it. We’re creating something genuinely new and exciting for viewers: breathtaking performances and heart-stopping drama.

“Our celebrities will wow us with spectacular routines that combine gymnastic and aerial disciplines, for the first time on British television.”
