FASHION students could become the designers of choice to a famous cross-dressing artist.

Blackburn College students were thrilled to meet the Turner Prize winner Grayson Perry at a London exhibition.

Students Victoria Snape, Sophie Bilham and Tom McLaughlin seized the opportunity to introduce themselves. The trio, who are returning to College next month for their final year, are to send outfit designs to Grayson as a summer project.

Victoria, from Burnley, was one of four students who had the chance to chat to Grayson at the exhibition held by the University of the Arts London at Chelsea College of Art and Design.

Victoria who recently achieved a distinction in her UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design, was chosen with classmates Tom and Sophie to feature in the exhibition, along with graduating Blackburn College student Jessica Hayes.

Victoria, who specialises in fabric design and jewellery making, grabbed her chance to speak to Grayson, and ask whether she and her fellow students could submit clothing designs to him.

Grayson, who often appears at events as his alter-ego, ‘Claire’, was happy to accept Victoria’s approach, and the students agreed to send him designs based on exhibits at Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery.

The 22-year-old said: “It was fantastic to meet Grayson. He gave us great advice.”
