A CROWD of people have once again gathered outside Blackburn’s Tesco superstore to raise awareness of the situation in Palestine.
Between 50 and 100 people peacefully protested outside the store, in Hill Street, this evening (THURS), a police spokeswoman said.
The Blackburn-based not-for-profit group Youth On A Mission had previously staged a demonstration there on Sunday, while taking a convoy of vehicles from Blackburn to Bradford the day before.
A large banner calling for a boycott of the chain because it stocks Israeli goods had also been put back up on the side of the derelict Duke of Edinburgh pub, in Crabtree Street, the police spokeswoman added.
It had been removed by staff from Blackburn with Darwen Council at the request of a police officer yesterday (WEDS).
Police later admitted wrongly ordering its removal.
Tesco said that, like all major UK retailers it sourced some of its products from the country and all its products were clearly marked with the country of origin, so customers could make informed choices about what to buy.
