A WOMAN got in her car and drove away after an internet date went horribly wrong.

Blackburn magistrates heard Heidi Crompton had been drinking and as she fled collided with four parked cars causing considerable damage to one of them.

She was arrested at the scene and while police investigated her allegations against her date no charges had been brought.

Crompton, 28, of Boston Street, Bolton, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. She was fined £230 with £108 costs and banned from driving for 24 months.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said just after 5am police were called to a road accident in Preston Old Road, Blackburn, where they found Crompton’s car in the middle of the road. She told police she had been the victim of a crime which was why she had driven.

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said Crompton had started an internet conversation and she had been invited to the other person’s home in Blackburn.

“She went there but there were difficulties,” said Mr Taylor. “She wasn’t allowed to leave when she wanted. She made a complaint to police and, while no further action has been taken, as far as she is concerned at the time she needed to get away from the address.

“All she was thinking about at the time was that she wanted to get as far away from that address as she possibly could,” said Mr Taylor.
