Lancashire Telegraph: Royal Lancashire Agricultural Show set to return Royal Lancashire Agricultural Show set to return

THE Royal Lancashire Show is set to be revived next year for the first time since 2012.

The show’s organisers opened new offices at Salesbury Hall, Ribchester, yesterday ahead of a full show being staged for two days in August 2015.

The show, to be held by the Royal Lancashire Agricultural Society, will return to the tried and tested showground at the hall at the invitation of Colin Mustoe, owner of the hall.

The event is the oldest show of its kind in the country, but has been beset with troubles since 2006, the last time a full event was put on.

In subsequent years, it has been cancelled due to wet weather, in 2007 and 2008; because of bosses’ rows about where to hold the event in 2009, and had to sell off trophies dating back hundreds of years to stave off bankruptcy in 2010.

In 2012 a reduced show was held in Witton Park, Blackburn.

David Marriott, secretary of the Royal Lancashire Agricultural Society, said: “We are thrilled that the show is set to return next year. It’s going to be hard work but the signs at the moment are very encouraging.

“We have had meetings with Ribble Valley Borough Council, Lancashire County Council, and the police and we have found a way around the problem of access onto the showground.

“Mr Mustoe has been very helpful and generous to us and it’s great that we have been able to open our own offices so now we have a home at last. Volunteers are already signing up and everyone we have spoken to have given us the thumbs-up. We feel that if we get the stewards for the event then the show will be on.”

A committee is set to be formed in the coming weeks tasked with finalising plans.

The organisers are looking for senior stewards. Anyone wishing to take on that role on August 15 and 16 next year can contact the society either by e-mail to info@royallancs.co.uk or call the office on 01254 914362.
