A TEAM of Barnoldswick students have won a Winston Churchill public speaking competition.

Seven year 10 pupils from West Craven High Technology College took first prize in the competition held at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire.

The West Craven students competed against five other teams made up of A-level students and won the most points from the four judges, which included actor Robert Hardy.

The feedback from the judges was very positive. They told the pupils it was a great team effort and the speech was well organised, “on-topic” throughout and well timed.

They also said that West Craven speak Emily Holt was by far the best of the day.

the team was made up of speaker Emily Holt, chairman Amelia Pollard, questioner Emma Wallbank and researchers Nicole Clutterbook, Nimrah Khan, Sam Pilkington and Tilly-May Johnson.
