A PLAN to freeze car parking charges in Todmorden and Walsden for two years has been floated by council bosses in Calderdale.

Borough council cabinet members will be asked to delay a proposed increase until spring 2017 when they meet on Monday.

Earlier this year the cabinet agreed to invest £1million in supporting parking services but also pledged to introduce car parking charges at 10 other locations.

The unveiling of car parking fees at Oxford Road, Dalton Street and Dale Street provoked a protest march from traders.

While the plans were shelved during the budget process in January, there is the prospect of them returning to fund the latest ‘freeze’.

Coun Barry Collins, economy cabinet member, said: “Across the borough, we now feel that a ‘freeze’ on overall parking charges would be welcomed by residents, businesses and visitors alike.”
