CUSTOMERS at Tesco in Clitheroe will be invited to donate items for the Ribble Valley Foodbank, from Thursday to Saturday this week.

People will be given a specially-selected shopping list when they enter the store and will be asked to pick up an item of food such as long-life milk, fruit juice, tinned foods and coffee before donating it at the end of their shop.

Foodbank volunteers will then sort donations into emergency parcels containing three days’ supply of nutritionally-balanced food which will be given to local men, women and children in crisis.

Since opening in July last year, about 1,260 people in Ribble Valley have have been given three days’ emergency food. Supermarket collections are one of the main ways that the foodbank is stocked and the charity is asking people to give generously.

Daniel Berrisford, store manager at Clitheroe Tesco, said: “Our customers were incredibly generous when we held our last food collection in the winter,, “So we’re hoping to collect an even bigger total this time around.”

And Tesco will also top up donations given to the foodbank by a further 30 per cent.
