HIGHWAYS engineers from Lancashire County Council are warning of travel delays on the B62321 Grane Road due to a possible sewer collapse.

One lane has been closed near to the Duke of Wellington pub in Haslingden and temporary traffic lights are in use.

This will enable engineers from United Utilities to investigate the situation and carry out repairs.

Ray Bennett, principal highways engineer for Rossendale, said: "People's safety is our main concern and we must close one lane to make sure the road doesn't collapse further under any vehicles. This will also allow the utilities company to investigate what has caused the collapse and carry out repairs to the road and sewer.

"We may have! to close the road altogether and put a diversion in place if the investigations reveal a major problem, but we will keep motorists informed.

"This will add extra time to journeys and we apologise for any inconvenience."
