Opposition to Clitheroe housing plans
10:56pm Saturday 21st June 2014 in News
THE leader of a Clitheroe housing action group has hit out at a proposed development scheme for the town.
Steve Rush, from the Clitheroe Residents Action Group, said that the plan for 275 houses off Waddington Road will ‘not benefit’ the town.
He also said that it would ‘only add to the destruction of our beautiful countryside’.
Mr Rush was speaking after a local consortium published plans for the Waddow View site, six months after their previous application was rejected after an appeal hearing.
The consortium, made up of Clitheroe Auction Mart, the Huntroyde Estate, John Taylor and Sarah and Samantha Howard, will run a consultation period until Monday, June 30.
Mr Rush said: “I do not consider the proposal to build another 275 houses in Clitheroe is warranted.
“There is nothing to commend about this scheme.
“With over 2,000 new houses already in the Clitheroe planning pipeline it baffles me why anyone would think we require another 275.
“Clitheroe residents objected to the first Waddow View application and will do so again.
“This proposal will be of no benefit to Clitheroe.
“The plans will only add to the destruction of our beautiful countryside.”
