PM ‘right’ to demand increase in patriotism, say East Lancs politicians

Lancashire Telegraph: PM ‘right’ to demand increase in patriotism say East Lancs politicians PM ‘right’ to demand increase in patriotism say East Lancs politicians

DAVID CAMERON’S call for people to be ‘far more muscular’ about being British has been welcomed by East Lancashire MPs of all parties.

Hyndburn and Haslingden’s Graham Jones, Ribble Valley’s Nigel Evans and Burnley’s Gordon Birtwistle backed the Prime Minister — provided national pride was about tolerance, fairness and democracy.

Last weekend Mr Cameron, below, said it was time British people were less ‘bashful’ about promoting national values and institutions.

This followed his recent comments that the UK had sent out a ‘worrying’ message “that if you don't want to believe in democracy, that's fine; that if equality isn't your bag, don't worry about it; that if you're completely intolerant of others, we will still tolerate you.” He claimed this had led to division and extremism.

Labour’s Mr Jones said: “I think everybody has their own, different definition of Britishness.

“I am proud to be British and to promote the values that made Britain great.

“They include freedom, tolerance, democracy, fairness and the rule of law.”

Liberal Democrat Mr Birtwistle said: “Mr Cameron is absolutely right.

“We should be proud to be British and people who come here should respect our traditions. They are freedom, fairness, the rule of law, tolerance, democracy and fairness.” Conservative Mr Evans said: “The Prime Minister is right to promote Britishness.

“To me that includes tolerance, fairness and above all democracy.

“Tolerance does not mean accepting unacceptable things, but toleration of different faiths, cultures, sexual orientations and ways of life.”

And Abdul Hamid Qureshi of Lancashire Council of Mosques said: “You have to decide what Britishness is.

“If it is fairness, freedom, tolerance, democracy and caring for the welfare of others, that is what we believe in.

“That means we are all British.”

How come Kate Hollern hasn't been quoted. Is she thinking about her payday and five minute fame so therefore doesn't want to ruffle the feathers of her voters, or maybe not wanting to upset any of her Scottish relatives who might be voting Independance. Whatever her reason, the fact Is she hasn't made me proud of being a Blackburnian, on the contrary, she has ruined this once proud town beyond repair to the point of embarrassment . Labour, the kiss of Death regarding Blackburn. Still at least I'm still proud to be British.

Don't be duped by all the hype surrounding 'Britishness' as politicians have consistently undermined the fabric of British society in the past thirty years with a dog eat dog individualism which pursues self interest at the expense of community and togetherness. Alongside this they have established a hugely intrusive spying and surveillance network which undermines our basic freedoms.

How many of the MP's mentioned above have used the same words : fairness, freedom, tolerance, democracy.
I think they may have all been sent the same memo. Is there no end to the propaganda that these corrupt self serving embezzlers produce.
What we need is a complete change of the political system.

Being British also means :

Never having a football team getting past the quarter finals (at the very most )
Not living in a true democracy, more of a dictatorship by proxy where establishment figures, big business and land-owners tell the politicians what to do irrespective of what the people actually want.
Not being able to use the land for recreation because it's owned by someone who got it given by a king hundreds of years ago. Funny, I didn't realise monarchs actually made land.
Not being able to query Britain's immigration policy without being called a Nazi or a racist.
Being in the EU and not being allowed a vote about whether we leave or not.
Not being allowed firearms to defend our homes or for sport because the despots who actually run this country are scared we would use our weapons on them.
Paying over £50billion a year in various motoring taxes and our government spending nearly half of it on other things - i.e.., benefits, public sector pay, MPs pay etc etc.
Lastly, being British means having been conned into thinking that living on a small, over-crowded, expensive island is somehow wonderful.

Well David you have done it again only you can
Come out with so much crap about being BRITISH
When you and your government are pulling our apart our county
And splitting the rich the middle class and the poor up into
Their respective forms of income by this I mean
1 The rich get richer on the backs of overs
2 The middle class pay your taxes
3 The poor have nothing so they can all die off
This is your idea of a being British well you can keep it?
I think I am a true British person I believe in the freedom
Of speech being able to go where I wish when I wish and not to
Listen to crap of you or anybody and protect what’s mine till the death
OR by the way I am not a member of any party?
I will jug all the parties in the 2015 election when the time comes.

Hook, Line and Sinker!!!

Publicity stunt!

Numpty campaign jobsworth drives past Brownhill Arms and spots England flags, (a clue=World Cup=Flags being flown), rings Kate and says, "I know, I know, I'll go tell them to take them down....and then you can personally come along and say they can stay......vote winner for sure...!"

"Oh yes", says Kate, without the sound nor sight of a rabbit, "that's a good idea, let me know when you've told them then leak it to the LET......well done, when you're finished go get a biscuit out of the campaign cookie jar".

Winterval was a promotional campaign run by Birmingham City Council in 1997 and 1998 to promote a whole series of events in the city centre, including Christmas. It was a disaster as it was seen by many people as an attempt to hide Christmas. So it was stopped and has never been repeated in Birmingham or anywhere else in the UK.

Even though zabby had to go back 16 years to try to find an example, Birmingham still had Christmas decorations up and no-one in Birmingham was stopped from putting up their own decorations in 1997 or 1998.
