Children from The Olive Primary School, Blackburn raised a remarkable £1,000 for the Mayor’s Charity.

The funds will be used to support the Blackburn & Darwen Kidney Care Appeal and will contribute to the Mayor’s campaign to provide two dialysis machines to hospitals in East Lancashire.

Julie Bradley, executive headteacher of the Olive School said: “Once again, our children have demonstrated their commitment to excellence and community service, and campaigning hard for local causes. Undoubtedly, this will contribute to improving the quality of life for the many local people who suffer from kidney problems.

“It is incredibly humbling to see children as young as four and five, raise a phenomenal amount for charity within a few days. This is the Big Society in action.”

The former Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen Coun Salim Mulla said: “I am extremely grateful to Tauheedul Charity and to the children of The Olive School for supporting my campaign and raising this very significant amount. The children’s efforts are inspiring and deserve recognition.

“I have had the honour of serving as mayor for over a year and been able to raise thousands of pounds for the Kidney Appeal.

“This final donation to my campaign, from the Tauheedul Charity, will make a real difference to the lives of many in East Lancashire. I cannot thank you enough.”
