THE MOTHER of a teenager who was diagnosed with a brain tumour is raising money for the charity which offered them support throughout his illness.

Caroline Holtom and her best friend Donna Murphy, a counter manager at Debenhams in Blackburn, have persuaded the store to let them use the premises for a fundraiser.

It will feature fashion shows, beauty demonstrations, therapies and treatments, dancing, and a raffle with prizes including a free holiday.

All the proceeds will go to Clic Sargent, a cancer support charity that works with children and young people.

Caroline, from Blackburn, said: “Clic Sargent were just brilliant with Brandon when he was diagnosed and going through treatment.

“They put him in touch with a great social worker, called Matt Sixsmith, and he just couldn’t do enough for us.

“He helped build Brandon’s confidence and helped us put things into perspective for us.

“Now, Brandon has had three all-clear scans and I’m just so grateful for everything they’ve done. I just want to give something back.”

Brandon, 18, was a student at St Bede’s RC High School when he first became ill, at the age of 16.

He complained of headaches and feeling sick and succumbed to stroke-like symptoms, feeling numbness and tingling sensations in his left arm.

Caroline said: “He was referred to Royal Blackburn Hospital for a scan and they found a cancerous tumour.

“They managed to remove it with surgery. He had 30 blasts of chemotherapy and he will have scans to check that it hasn’t come back for the rest of his life, really.

“He still has seizures but they are becoming less and less and he is going to be starting a degree in Business management at Lancaster University in September.

The ‘Summer Spectacular’ will be held in Debenhams, from 6pm until 8.30pm on Wednesday, June 18. Tickets are £5 from the store.
