A TEENAGER is in hospital with ‘serious injuries’ after he was hit by a taxi in Bacup.

The 19-year-old was involved in a collision with a black cab at around 4am on Saturday morning.

Police have appealed for witnesses but said they were not treating the incident as a hit-and-run.

The collision happened at the junction of Holmes Street and Burnley Road, which was closed for two hours while police investigated the collision. The North West Ambulance Service said it was called to Cooper Street, opposite Holmes Street at 4.13am, but that the injured man was not at the scene when they arrived.

Paramedics received a second call at 5.25am and the man was found in Rochdale Road and taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital.

A spokeswoman for the ambulance service said: “We can confirm that we attended an incident in which a man was hit by a taxi in the early hours of Saturday morning.

“He was taken to hospital in Blackburn with serious injuries after a second phone call.”

Neither the police nor the ambulance service could give further details about the nature of the man’s injuries. It is also unclear how he made the journey from Burnley Road to Rochdale Road.

Officers are keen to trace anyone who may have seen the man, who is from Bacup, or the taxi in the lead up to the accident. A spokesman from Lancashire police, said: “I urge anyone who witnessed the incident or holds information that could assist our investigation to contact police directly.”

Anyone with information should contact Lancashire police on 101 quoting log number 0276 of June 7.
