Football clubs send message to fans amid World Cup violence fears

Blackburn Rovers and Burnley FC have pledged to stand together against domestic abuse

First published in News

FOOTBALL clubs and emergency services have united to send a strong message to fans who resort to violence during the World Cup.

Blackburn Rovers and Burnley FC have pledged to stand together against domestic abuse, after it was revealed reported incidents rose by around 25 per cent during England games at the 2010 World Cup.

Offenders are being warned to ‘leave the striking to the players’ as part of the campaign designed to address traditional spikes in crime during major football tournaments.

The Ugly Consequences of the Beautiful Game campaign has been developed by Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner, Clive Grunshaw, Lancashire Constabulary and the county's fire service on behalf of the Safer Lancashire communications network.

Mr Grunshaw said: “Residents across the county will be coming together to watch the World Cup this summer, and it should be a time for fun and celebration. But unfortunately, experience tells us the tournament is also likely to be a time for excessive drinking — which can have devastating consequences.”

Over the next six weeks, billboards will be appearing in Blackburn warning domestic abuse offenders, while bus shelter adverts will urge victims, friends and family to ‘blow the whistle on domestic abuse’.

For once Mr Grunshaw is right:
"But unfortunately, experience tells us the tournament is also likely to be a time for excessive drinking — which can have devastating consequences.”

Its all down to alcohol, its about time alcohol is banned in this country, banning it would see domestic abuse decrease, child abuse decrease, public disorders decrease, 1 in car 6 ambulance not wasted, 2.7bn in NHS costs, 15bn for waste of police time.

But I know it will never happen. Please Please I ask the WHITE community to publicly condemn this behaviour and ask that churches include an awareness to this problem in the Sunday sermons as a run up to the world cup.

This problem is not an Asian one, so don't try to somehow pin it on that community like everything else!!!

bans on alcohol only increases the trouble.Look at prohibition in the states in the 20s, it just made the bootleggers rich and in the end they had to admit defeat. must admit though the idea if it could work would save this country millions of pounds a year in drink related crime and hospital admittances.

Yes you right it didn't work back then and probably wouldn't work now, but the billions wasted on it due to individual choice is disgusting.

I bet if you look at the figure the government make sheds load more money out of taxes on alcohol than the cost to the NHS, admittedly there are other associated costs that are impossible to put a price to. Regardless those countries where alcohol is "banned" really are violence free and really nice places to live aren't they?

As a member of the white community I will happily condemn all forms of domestic violence, I'd also like a pint of whatever you are on because if you think there is no domestic violence and abuse amongst Asians then you must be drinking some seriously good stuff.

The article relates to the increase of domestic violence during the world cup. During the world cup alcohol intake increases during match time, thus increasing the chance of domestic abuse.

I never said domestic abuse doesn't exist in all communities, what I rather said is that this specific issue around the world cup is a white community problem.

Women choose to cover they face, it is not in Islam to do this, culture causes forced marriages again against Islam as well genital multiliation all against Islam. Animals are not slaughtered inhumanely it has been proven that is is more humane than the usual method of a bolt to the head.

Nobody bought religion into this discussion merely races. Your race has a culture of drinking, smashing women and children up as well as our towns. That is what this article is referring to, instead of twisting things into religious arguments and nothing to do with this article, why don't we have a grown up discussion about what this article is about?

Why is it OK in the drinking community to beat women up? specially during the world cup?

Ban alcohol is a simple answer (which will never happen) but for those who disagree tell me what good does it do in this country??

GracesDad, grown up discussion or is that not possible?

Yes I threw skin color around, never threw religions around.

I'm not interested in condemning anything other than a blatantly racist attack on white people. I am not a politician and therefore I do not need to condemn anything just because you are trying to provoke me to.

The fact is, you basically saw an opportunity to attack white people, whether you accept that or not, (it is a fact) and you took that opportunity. I took the opportunity to defend white people against your allegations and then used the some of the attrocious examples for which your community are responsible to hit back. End of story!

Openminded...do women in YOUR community never get beaten up by their men?? I do believe that they do....do children in YOUR community never get beaten up by their parents?? I do believe that they do...I also believe that YOUR community has a problem with under age girls being groomed for YOUR community's men to have their wicked way with them as well.....I assume that YOUR community does not drink alcohol so what is the reason for YOUR community to behave in this way?? Finally, as Gracesdad says, if you don't like OUR rules, then you can quite easily feck off
All communities have the problems you mentioned, whether white, brown or any other color. I never once said it didn't and if I did please quote me, because I know I haven't.

You say "my" community doesn't drink and what are the reasons for this behaviour, there probably isn't a decent enough reason and that's why those individual perpetrating the crimes are the most cruel in every aspect, they do not have drink to blame.

The community who drinks in the majority is the white community, and those people who drink, blame drink for they ill behaviour, whether domestic abuse, child abuse, damage to property, drink driving, at the centre of it alcohol is blamed. So why have alcohol? Alcohol is far worse then drugs, but yet I can go to the corner shop and buy unlimited amounts of it.

This country wastes too much on the minority who spoil it for the rest, in fact almost 20bn per year, 10bn is raised in income from selling alcohol legally, so we left with a deficit of 10bn.

Imagine what would 10bn do for our country?

You say I can easily feck off, why should I when all I want is this country to stop wasting money on people who can't handle they drink or when to stop? Is it wrong for me to want this?

You now know how the Asian community now feels, consistently being attacked for the doings of small members of the community but with the whole community being mislabelled.

You now know how the Asian community feels, when each time an article appears about the wrongdoings within the Asian community, the first thing thats comes out of the white community mouth is, the community should be educated as friday sermons by the Imams.

Welcome to our world GraceDad.

Who the hell goes to church that watches football? If you seriously believe that dinosaur of an institution has any influence over the young men of today then you are utterly deluded my friend!!!
I merely suggesting what it suggested to the Asian community, when the white community want action the first thing that comes out of they mouths is mosque sermons, so I just turned the tables.
Why do you feel the need to even bring race into this? Are you suggesting that only white people beat their partners or that only white people watch football? Either way you are wrong.
Lol I never said either.
Yet you felt the need to bring skin colour into this debate....how bizarre!!!!
End of day truth hurts, if we banned Alcohol we would save billions, women would be safe and children would be safe, our towns would be safe.

Those are the facts, not mine, but are facts and the fact is it down to your community for all of this.
And if we banned religion wars would end, women wouldn't have to cover their faces or be forced to marry somebody they didn''t want to or have their genitals mutilated and animals wouldn't be slaughtered inhumanely...I could go on all day....but facts are facts and YOUR community is to blame for all of this!!!!!!!!!

Your words were - and I quote "This problem is not an Asian one, so don't try to somehow pin it on that community like everything else!!!"

I actually agree with some of your comments about the country wasting billions per year on issues such as this but to be fair, the country also wastes billions on illegal immigrants and other people who feel that it is fair to claim benefits and milk the country dry

Yes I did say that, which was related to this article specifically, not alcohol in general. This article relates to a issue within the White community and not Asian one, unless I am in the words of Ed "out of touch"

Yes you right, this country wastes money on other things as well, but this specific subject is off bounds why? why is alcohol off bounds? Why is immigration at the forefront? or benefits? Both of those, it is hard to blame the individuals as the government system allows them to do so, immigration I do not have an issue about, individuals coming here wanting a better life, benefit claimants are individuals filling forms out and sending them to the government and guess what the government system is saying YES you will get this and this and this, which means you don't actually have to work !

Both of those examples are government systems, alcohol isn't its a product sold in this country, like break and milk.

the subject of alcohol is not "off bounds", but banning alcohol is never going to happen so I do not see the need to comment on such a ridiculous idea. However, I do feel the need to comment on someone saying that it is a WHITE problem and it is OUR community to blame! I also believe that people of other skin colours drink alcohol as well, so it is not just a WHITE problem, as you suggest.

The article is about domestic violence increasing during the World Cup. Domestic violence is committed by white, black, brown and yellow people and those people are either stone cold sober, drunk, drugged up and/or just completely stupid!!

Finally, as Gracesdad says, if you don't like OUR rules, then you can quite easily feck off[/p]
Is it wrong for me to want this?[/p]
Your words were - and I quote "This problem is not an Asian one, so don't try to somehow pin it on that community like everything else!!!" I actually agree with some of your comments about the country wasting billions per year on issues such as this but to be fair, the country also wastes billions on illegal immigrants and other people who feel that it is fair to claim benefits and milk the country dry .[/p]
Yes I did say that, which was related to this article specifically, not alcohol in general. This article relates to a issue within the White community and not Asian one, unless I am in the words of Ed "out of touch" Yes you right, this country wastes money on other things as well, but this specific subject is off bounds why? why is alcohol off bounds? Why is immigration at the forefront? or benefits? Both of those, it is hard to blame the individuals as the government system allows them to do so, immigration I do not have an issue about, individuals coming here wanting a better life, benefit claimants are individuals filling forms out and sending them to the government and guess what the government system is saying YES you will get this and this and this, which means you don't actually have to work ! Both of those examples are government systems, alcohol isn't its a product sold in this country, like break and milk.[/p]
the subject of alcohol is not "off bounds", but banning alcohol is never going to happen so I do not see the need to comment on such a ridiculous idea. However, I do feel the need to comment on someone saying that it is a WHITE problem and it is OUR community to blame! I also believe that people of other skin colours drink alcohol as well, so it is not just a WHITE problem, as you suggest. The article is about domestic violence increasing during the World Cup. Domestic violence is committed by white, black, brown and yellow people and those people are either stone cold sober, drunk, drugged up and/or just completely stupid!! shawey72
