BURNLEY brewery Moorhouse’s has confirmed the closure of its second pub this year.
The Stanley, in Oxford Road, Burnley Wood, served its final pint last week, and is set to be put up for sale.
It comes just five months after the General Scarlett, Moorhouse’s flagship pub, in Accrington Road, also shut.
David Grant, the brewery’s managing director, said the two venues had encountered similar problems.
He said: “The reason behind it is the lack of trade within that area.
“There are a couple of pubs within that area, neither of which are doing that well.
“Nationally, 23 pubs a week are closing in the marketplace.
“The Stanley is a land-locked, wet-led pub and we have taken the decision to put it on the market through Fleurets.
“It is a community pub, but it needs trade. It needs a lot of money spending on it.
“It’s not valuable as a good investment for ourselves.
“We are focusing at this moment in time on selling our beer regionally, and nationally.”
The firm, which built a £4.2million cask-ale brewing complex, in Moorhouse Street, in 2011, mothballed the General Scarlett in January. Mr Grant said: “They are similar properties in that they are landlocked, and there is no way you could offer food in them.
“If people aren’t using these pubs, then what are we to do?”
In another blow for drinkers, the General Havelock Inn, at the junction of Accrington Road and Barracks Road, has also been put up for sale.
The public house, opposite Lifestyle Fitness, was formerly tied to Cumbrian brewery Jennings, and Wolverhampton-based Marston’s.
The two-storey venue is available to let through local estate agents Trevor Dawson.
Trevor Dawson is marketing the site as a development opportunity for offices, a retail unit, or a leisure facility.
