A BURNLEY frozen food distributor was targeted by masked raiders who forced their way in after breaking down a door and a protective gate.

Burglars targeted Wiltshire Farm Foods in Caroline Court, Billington Road, smashing their way in to the building, damaging brickwork.

They escaped with a small amount of petty cash, which included bags of coins and the float intended for the next day.

The raiders wore balaclavas to cover their faces during the raid, which took place at around 2am last Friday.

A Ford pick-up truck had been seen in Caroline Court during the day, with the passengers acting suspiciously.

Three men were seen with the vehicle at the time.

The truck was described as having a white cab with black raised sides and back end, with sign-writing asking for scrap metal with a mobile telephone number in yellow numbering across the back.

Gwilym Dwyfor, manager of the premises, said: “It was very upsetting, it’s a family business.

“I was at Alton Towers with the kids when a member of staff phoned me to tell me what had happened when he came in.”

Police have warned people to be on the lookout for the distinctive pick-up truck, which officers believe may still be touting for scrap metal in East Lancashire.

Watch liaison officer Keith Sandham, of Lancashire Police, said: “Please bear in mind they may well be visiting your estate.

“If you have any information on this crime, or on the pick-up truck please ring 101 and quote log 190 of 30/5. Alternatively you can ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
