A MOTORIST was taken to hospital after a crash in Rawtenstall in the early hours of this morning.

The accident happened at the roundabout in New Hall Hey when a Honda hit a lamppost shortly after midnight.

The fire service was called as it had been thought the car was on fire.

But when they arrived, it was discovered steam was coming the radiator.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Somebody went to hospital in an ambulance.

“The airbags in the car had been deployed.”

It is not thought the motorist suffered serious injuries.
