DEVELOPERS have unveiled plans to build 110 executive homes at Cranberry Lane in Darwen.

And bosses at Bloor Homes want to hear people’s views about the plans to build a mix of three, four and five-bedroom homes on the fields between Cranberry Lane and Spring Vale Garden Village.

The proposal comes after the area was designated for development under Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Local Plan.

Because of new Government house-building targets, the council had to identify greenfield sites for 9,400 new homes across the borough.

Developers propose that the new estate would feature a children’s play area, a lagoon to act as a focal point and provide opportunities for ‘ecological enhancements’ and vehicular access from two points on Cranberry Lane.

Stephen Barlow, strategic land director at Bloor Homes, said: “Not only are we proposing to deliver executive-style homes, in line with a key aspiration in the council’s emerging Local Plan, but we want also to provide a hefty cash boost for the borough, which could be used to regenerate communities and deliver affordable housing where it is needed.

“Before we submit a planning application, we will be consulting with local residents and community stakeholders.

“Working with local people is a crucial part of our development process and genuinely helps to shape our plans, so please take the time to let us know what you think about our proposals.”

Marsh House town councillor Simon Huggill said: “We will be holding a public meeting in the next few weeks for people to come and discuss the proposal.

“There are a few issues that spring to mind for me, the first being access. I am also concerned about water run-off. There are a lot of things to discuss, like is there a demand for this type of housing when we have 134 similar homes supposedly being built at the bottom of Pole Lane?”

Leaflets have been sent to residents and a website has been set up at www.cranberrylanedarwen.co.uk and any residents who wish to voice concerns can call 0844 5563002.
