POLICE have released a description of a man who allegedly tried to snatch a two-year-old girl in Towneley Park.

Officers were called to the park, at the back of Towneley Hall, on Wednesday lunchtime after a dad told them that a man had grabbed his daughter.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “We received a report of an incident at noon on Wednesday, May 21, where it is alleged a man has approached a two-year-old child while she was in company of her father near to the tunnel of the forest walk in Towneley Park.

“It was reported that he has taken hold of the girl by her arm and appeared to pull at her. At no time was the girl separated from her father and she was not hurt during the incident.

“The man has been described as being Asian, in his late 30s, 5ft 4ins, with short hair, wearing white shorts with a tribal blue pattern and a grey t-shirt.

“Officers are now investigating this incident. If anyone has any information, please call Police on 101 quoting log number 0502 of 21/05/2014. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Burnley Council is helping police with the investigation and has offered access to its CCTV footage from the park.
