ACCRINGTON pupils took part in an ‘extreme physics’ event.

Year 10 students at Mount Carmel — Julia Trella, Amani Siddique, Brad Metcalf and Jamil Hussain — took part in a three-day competition organised and hosted by Dallam State Boarding School in Milnthorpe, Cumbria.

A total of 12 schools from around the country participated in a combination of team and individual challenges, staying overnight in dormitories within the school.

As a bit of light relief from all the challenges the students also went to a climbing wall.

They completed the overall competition on the final day in third place. The students also won a rosette for Best Teamwork and Best Team Rocket.

Individual awards were given to Brad for the Memory Challenge, Julia for the Skills Challenge and Amani for the Trebuchet Creativity Challenge.

Mount Carmel physics teacher Michael Cunningham said: “Our students were up against some very tough competition and once they settled in they produced some fantastic work both individually and as a team.

“It was an honour to have them represent Mount Carmel.

“We are all very proud of their achievements.”
