A POPULAR canalside pub has a secret weapon to pull in visitors.

The Anchor Inn, in Salterforth, is home to centuries-old stalactites and stalagmites in the cellars which attract people from across the region keen to see the unusual display.

Part of the original inn can still be seen in the cellars and, due to them being undisturbed for well over 200 years, there is now an incredible display.

The amazing formations have been created by water dripping through limestone flooring in the cellar.

The hostelry, which is a regular haunt for tourists and boat cruisers, is now run by landlord Martin Andrew.

As well as the spectacular water formations in the cellar, the pub also boasts views of some stunning scenery.

Stalagmites are formations created from the ground up, and stalactites from the ceiling down.

The pub is already well-known for its unusual cellar display, but as word spreads about the stalagmites and stalactites, the Anchor is likely to continue to capitalise on its added attraction.
