A BRIERFIELD care home has received international recognition for its treatment of residents with dementia.
Brierfield House Care Home, in Hardy Avenue, is involved in the PEARL (Positively Enhancing and Enriching Residents’ Lives) specialist dementia care programme.
The home, which is operated by Four Seasons Health Care, has won acclaim for achieving reductions in the need for medications to manage dementia symptoms, alongside a corresponding improvement in sufferers’ wellbeing.
A spokesperson for the home said: “The ethos of PEARL is to see beyond the symptoms of dementia to recognise each person as individual and support them to live their lives as closely as possible to the way that they always have.
“Talking with the person and their family, friends and health or social workers to understand something of the life of the person can help us shape their care programme and gives us ideas of how we can engage with them.”
