NOMINATIONS for the crème de la crème of East Lancashire’s teachers are being taken.

The Lancashire Telegraph has launched its education awards in a bid to recognise the hard work and commitment teachers and school staff put into developing the region’s youngsters every day.

And we want you to tell us who you think is most deserving of the prize.

Categories include most inspirational teacher, unsung hero, best primary and best secondary headteachers.

Les Turner, from the National Association of Headteachers in Lancashire, said: “I am delighted to endorse the Lancashire Telegraph education awards.

“When so much in the state education system is under attack, it is fitting that local communities can nominate those who help in the education of their children and young people.

“Local people recognising excellence in local schools can only help morale.”

Claire Ward, Lancashire representative for the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers, added: “It is a very difficult time for teachers at the moment and it has been for a while now.

"We recognise that all teachers give above and beyond the call of duty every day and it is nice to see recognition from the Lancashire Telegraph that teachers are doing a good job.”

Nominations for the awards, which will take place at the Stanley House Hotel on June 26, are also being taken for outstanding primary and secondary pupils and the best schools. There will also be a lifetime achievement award presented.
